"Writing Testable Code" - The RSS Feed

Miško Hevery and colleagues have written up a guide for Google engineers called Writing Testable Code. It's great, but rather long for reading in one sitting, so I have split it up into a daily RSS feed.

(FeedChopper and a Copy As HTML Firefox extension were helpful in creating this feed.)

Austen Ipsum: Random Jane Austen Dialogue Generator

Here's a little web service that outputs random dialogue from Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice. Just give it the number of sentences you want. It's a more interesting alternative to "Lorem ipsum" for dummy text:

http://jonathanaquino.com/austen.php?sentences=3

Here are some 3-sentence samples:

  • I must not decide on my own performance. I am not to be intimidated into anything so wholly unreasonable. It is unaccountable! In every view it is unaccountable!

  • You conjecture is totally wrong, I assure you. If I can perceive her regard for him, he must be a simpleton, indeed, not to discover it too. Those were your words.

  • Yes, vanity is a weakness indeed. So, Lizzy your sister is crossed in love, I find. If _he_ wishes to avoid seeing _me_, he must go.

Definitely more interesting than the usual "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit."

I highly recommend Jane Austen's delightful novel. It's Britain's second favourite book, after Lord of the Rings. You can download the text - makes for good reading on a mobile device.
