Screenshot of the Google OS as it stands today


Here is a screenshot showing the current state of the Google OS. First thing to note are the interesting Mac-like icons, which expand when your mouse hovers over them, just like the Mac OSX Dock. Google has removed this page, but fortunately you can find a working cache of it here: http://www.theplaceforitall.com/googlex/

Next thing to note is that the browser is the operating system (Firefox in this case). Also shown are Google's free photo-editing software (Picasa), its free desktop-search bar, its free web-search bar, its free instant-messaging app (Hello), and of course Google's wonderful email app, GMail, which is also free.

And digging deeper (the Control Panel, if you will), we have a host of advanced services that Google provides:



It's neat to watch Google morph into the desktop!
